Spring Again

Friday, April 29th, 2011

What will you do to renew yourself this spring? When I was in college, a favorite professor of mine said if I wanted to be a leader I needed to have a spring within to draw from. He knew the demands of leadership and how leaders can burn out. Using the seasons as markers, spring is a time to renew yourself, let go of what no longer serves you and create new, positive activities and relationships in your life. Happy Spring!

How To Make Work-Life Balance Work

  • If society is to make any progress on this issue we need an honest debate, but the trouble is so many people talk so much rubbish about work-life balance.
  • We need to face the truth that government and corporations are not going to solve the issue for us; it is up to us as individuals to take control and responsibility for the type of lives we live.
  • We have to be careful with the time frame we use as a basis to judge our balance.
  • We need to approach balance in a balanced way.

Many business theorists and consultants are recycling these basic ideas and saying they are new. What will improve the way we do work? In my opinion- a focus on the individual, brutal honesty, open acceptance that many companies are driven only by shareholder value and opportunities for workers a to speak. It’s time.
