What will you do to renew yourself this spring? When I was in college, a favorite professor of mine said if I wanted to be a leader I needed to have a spring within to draw from. He knew the demands of leadership and how leaders can burn out. Using the seasons as markers, spring is a time to renew yourself, let go of what no longer serves you and create new, positive activities and relationships in your life. Happy Spring!

In this TED Talk, Nigel Marsh talks about his search for balance he makes four observations worth thinking about:
- If society is to make any progress on this issue we need an honest debate, but the trouble is so many people talk so much rubbish about work-life balance.
- We need to face the truth that government and corporations are not going to solve the issue for us; it is up to us as individuals to take control and responsibility for the type of lives we live.
- We have to be careful with the time frame we use as a basis to judge our balance.
- We need to approach balance in a balanced way.
There are a lot of platitudes flying around the workplace these days-you manage what you measure, happiness leads to productivity, systems bring efficiencies. They all have truth in them. Many business theorists and consultants are recycling these basic ideas and saying they are new. What will improve the way we do work? In my opinion- a focus on the individual, brutal honesty, open acceptance that many companies are driven only by shareholder value and opportunities for workers a to speak. It’s time.
